Transits in Human Design
On this page
Every planet in the solar system is somewhere right now. Drop those positions onto the Rave Mandala and each one falls in one of the 64 gates and in one of that gate's six lines. That snapshot is a transit. Mechanically it is nothing new: it is the calculation that built your bodygraph, run for today's moment instead of the moment you were born.
Because the planets never stop moving, that configuration changes continuously. Ra Uru Hu called the transit field the Program, and described it as a neutrino stream running through the sky and through every living being at once. It is the weather everybody is standing in at the same time. Because the whole planet is in the same stream, a transit is never a personal message addressed to you — it is the atmosphere of the day, for eight billion people at once.
Three ways the sky meets your bodygraph#
When the transit field meets one design, only three things can mechanically happen. Telling them apart is most of what there is to learn here.
| Kind | What the sky is doing | What it does to your bodygraph | Who has it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Background | A planet holds each end of one channel | Nothing is added to you | Everyone alive, at once |
| Direct | A planet sits in the partner of one of your hanging gates | That channel closes; an open center can be temporarily defined | Only people with that hanging gate |
| Amplified | A planet lands on a channel you already carry | No structural change; a familiar theme turned up | Only people who carry that channel |
Direct is the one worth understanding, because it is the only one that is about you. When a transit completes a hanging gate and defines a center that is normally open, you get consistent energy somewhere you usually have none. If a planet closes a channel into your open Sacral center, you may find a steady working stamina that is not normally there. That energy is real while it lasts, and it is borrowed. When the planet moves on, the channel uncouples and the definition goes with it.
What never moves#
A transit can define an open center for an afternoon or for years. What it cannot do is touch your architecture:
- Your type never changes.
- Your Strategy and Authority never change.
- Your profile and your incarnation cross never change.
All of those are fixed by your birth moment. If you are a Projector, you are a Projector every day of your life. So the accurate sentence is "my Sacral is defined until Thursday" — never "I am a Generator this week". A borrowed definition is not an authority, and a decision made from one is a decision made from the weather.
How fast the weather changes#
Bodies cross the wheel at wildly different speeds, and speed is what decides whether a transit is a mood or a chapter. The Sun and Earth carry roughly 70% of the neutrino influence in the teaching, which makes the Sun the loudest body in the field. It spends about 5.71 days in each gate — about 0.95 days, near enough a day, in each line.
- Moon — about 10.25 hours per gate, all 64 gates in 27.3 days.
- Mercury and Venus — days to weeks, stretched and repeated by their retrograde loops.
- Mars — about 11 days per gate.
- Jupiter — about 68 days per gate.
- Saturn — about 5.5 months per gate.
- Uranus — about 1.3 years per gate.
- Neptune — about 2.6 years per gate.
- Pluto — 2 to 6 years per gate.
- The lunar Nodes — about 106 days per gate, moving backwards through the wheel.
The difference between a Moon transit and a Pluto transit is the difference between half a day and a decade. Both are the same mechanism.
Where to start#
Read the section in this order:
- The Sun and Earth: theme of the week — the slow theme underneath everything, and the one transit worth knowing by name.
- When a transit defines an open center — the mechanics of a hanging gate completed from outside, and how long each planet stays.
- Transits and your authority — what to actually do with one, which is mostly nothing.
- Reflectors and the lunar cycle — the one design the Moon organises a whole month for.
- Planetary returns — the long arcs: Saturn, Uranus, Kiron.
- The Rave New Year — where the wheel starts.
- Global cycles and 2027 — the very long cycle people keep asking about.
- Retrograde planets — what the red R means, and why a transit can come back.
