Human Design Profiles

If your type is how your energy works, your profile is who you are while you live it. The profile is your personality archetype in Human Design — the costume your soul wears and the way you're built to learn, relate, and find your purpose. Two people can both be Generators, yet move through life completely differently because one is a studious 1/3 and the other a magnetic 5/1.

Every profile is made of two numbers, like 1/3 or 4/6. Each number is a line — one of six universal roles, from the curious Investigator (line 1) to the wise Role Model (line 6). Your profile pairs the line you live consciously with the line that runs quietly underneath.

Where your profile comes from#

Your profile is built from two specific positions in your chart — the line of your Sun in each of the two "sides" Human Design calculates:

• The Personality line (conscious) comes from your Sun at the moment of birth. This is the you you recognise — your self-image, the part you can talk about, the role you know you're playing. It's the first number in your profile.
• The Design line (unconscious) comes from your Sun about 88 days before birth (the moment the Sun was ~88° of arc earlier). This is the body you, the part that runs on instinct and that others often see in you before you do. It's the second number.

So a 2/4 profile has a line-2 conscious Personality and a line-4 unconscious Design. To learn exactly how those two solar positions are found, see how a chart is calculated.

The six lines in one minute#

Every profile is a blend of two of these six lines. Each has a keynote and a natural arc from its gift to its shadow. (For the full breakdown — including the "harmonics" that explain why only certain pairs occur — see the profile lines page.)

The 12 profiles#

There are exactly 12 profiles. The two lines always sit in a fixed harmonic relationship, which is why you'll never see a 1/2 or a 3/4 — only the pairings below occur.

How to read your own profile#

A profile isn't a box; it's a strategy for living that's already true of you. Three ways to put it to work:

• The first number is your conscious driver. It's the role you can feel yourself playing and the one you'll most readily own. If you're a 3/x, you'll relate to learning through messy experience; a 5/x will recognise being projected onto.
• The second number colours everything from underneath. Others often see your Design line before you do. A x/4 radiates relational warmth; a x/6 carries a "wise observer" quality even when young.
• Read it alongside the rest of your chart. Profile works with your type and aura, your strategy and authority, and your defined centers. The profile tells you how you're here to learn and connect; type and authority tell you how to decide and move.

Profile vs. type — don't mix them up#

It's easy to confuse the two because both feel like "your design," but they answer different questions:

• Type (Generator, Manifestor, Projector, etc.) is about your energy and aura — your Strategy for engaging the world. It's set by which centers and channels are defined.
• Profile is about your personality and life theme — your costume and your way of learning. It's set purely by the lines of your Sun in the two calculations.

You can be the same type as a friend and a totally different profile, or share a profile with someone of a different type. Together they're a big part of why no two charts feel quite the same.
